Laurie J. Bassi, Ph.D.
Chair of the Board
Dr. Bassi is responsible for the strategic direction of Bassi Investments and
also serves on its Investment Committee. She is an internationally
recognized expert in measuring and valuing organizations investments
in human capital. Her work in this regard provides the foundation
for the investment strategy of Bassi Investments. In addition
to her responsibilities at Bassi Investments, Dr. Bassi
is CEO and Managing Partner of McBassi & Company, Inc.,
an independent research-based consulting firm (www.mcbassi.com),
and is a Research Fellow at both Accenture's Institute for Strategic
Change and Saba Software. Prior to launching Bassi Investments and McBassi, Dr. Bassi
served as Saba's director of research, where the major focus of
her work was on the economics and measurement of learning. Before
joining Saba, she served as a vice president and general manager
at the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), where
she was responsible for research and enterprise solutions.
Dr. Bassi spent the early years of her career as a tenured professor
of economics at Georgetown University, where she also served as
a co-founder of the Graduate Public Policy Program. In addition,
Dr. Bassi has served as a staff director for several U.S. government
commissions, including the Commission on Workforce Quality, which
laid the early groundwork for the emergence of portable skills credentials.
As a former university professor and a continuing contributor to
the debate on human and intellectual capital, Dr. Bassi is an internationally
recognized expert whose advice is sought by a wide variety of enterprises
and government agencies. While at ASTD, she was responsible for
their Benchmarking Forum, a group of seventy Global 500 organizations
that worked together to improve the effectiveness of their investments
in learning. Her expertise in developing metrics and measurement
of human and intellectual capital led to her appointment as co-chair
of the National Academy of Science's Board on Testing and Assessment;
as chair of the human capital subcommittee of the Brookings Institution's
taskforce on intangible assets; and as a regular participant in
international meetings on human and intellectual capital sponsored
by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in
Paris. Dr. Bassi has authored over 50 books and published papers.

Dr. Bassi holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University,
a M.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University,
and a B.S. in Mathematics from Illinois State University. She is
a registered investment advisor.
