Craig D. Van Hulzen
Chief Investment Officer
Mr. Van Hulzen has portfolio oversight responsibilities and serves
on the Investment Committee of Bassi Investments. He is also the CEO of Van Hulzen
Asset Management, LLC, a firm he founded in 1998. He serves as the
portfolio manager for individual clients nationwide and as third
party equity manager for investment firms in Maryland, New Mexico,
and Colorado.
He has extensive investment management experience, having served
previously as Chief Investment Officer at Cornerstone Capital Management,
Director of Quantitative Research at First Affirmative Financial,
and as a Registered Representative at Financial Network Investment
Corporation. He has managed portfolios for a wide range of individuals
and groups, including professional athletes, movie stars, Olympic
teams, non-profit 501(c)3 organizations, and corporations.
He has served as consultant to State Pension Plans in California
(CalPers) and Florida (State Retirement System), and submitted quantitative
analysis on risk/reward tradeoffs in pension plans to states including
Minnesota, Virginia, and Colorado. He was worked with and testified
on behalf of Governors and members of the House of Representatives
on the issue of quantifying industry-related investment risk in
the scope of passive pension portfolios. He has also provided consulting
services to an Internet portal company, financial planning firms,
mutual fund organizations, and private companies, on issues ranging
from venture capital financing to shareholder resolutions to online
investing. He co-authored a white paper on risk-adjusted weighting
drag on pension performance in the S&P 500 tobacco sector for
the American Medical Association. He has been featured in Fortune
Online, USA Today, Pension & Investments magazine, on Crosswalk.com,
and on financial radio programs.
He holds a bachelors degree in Business Administration (with
a Finance emphasis) from Point Loma Nazarene University. He is a
candidate for Chartered Financial Analyst Level I, and is
certified through the National Association of Securities Dealers
on Series 7, Series 63, and Series 65.
