Daniel P. McMurrer
Chief Research Officer

Mr. McMurrer is responsible for research at Bassi Investments and also serves on its Investment Committee. In addition, he is the Vice President for Research at McBassi & Company (www.mcbassi.com), an independent research-based consulting firm, and he is also a Research Fellow at Accenture's Institute for Strategic Change. Prior to joining Bassi Investments, he was a research manager at Saba Software in Redwood Shores, California, and a senior research associate at the American Society for Training & Development in Alexandria, Virginia. At both organizations, Mr. McMurrer worked closely with Dr. Laurie Bassi, Board Chair of Bassi Investments, on ground-breaking research in a variety of areas of human capital, including the development and creation of internationally recognized standards for measuring and valuing firms' learning investments and outcomes. These metrics have now been used by thousands of organizations across the world. Much of his recent research has focused on the relationship between firms' human capital investments and their overall market and financial performance, research that represents much of the foundation of the Bassi Investments investment strategy.

Mr. McMurrer worked previously as a research associate at the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C., where his research focused on issues related to opportunity and mobility in the United States. His book based on this research, Getting Ahead: Economic and Social Mobility in America (co-authored with Isabel Sawhill), was published in 1998. He also worked as a researcher with the federal Advisory Council on Unemployment Compensation in the U.S. Department of Labor, and served recently as a member of the Brookings Institution's taskforce on valuing intangible assets. He is also the author or co-author of many other publications, including Workplace Training for Lower-Wage Workers (2003, Upjohn Institute Press) and “Training Investment Can Mean Financial Performance” (Training & Development).

Mr. McMurrer lives in Amherst, Massachusetts. He holds an M.P.P. in Public Policy from Georgetown University and a B.A. in Politics from Princeton University. He is a registered investment advisor.
